Happy Earth Day! On Thursday, April 22nd, we celebrated Earth Day in STEM. We talked about ways we can reduce our trash and reuse recycled materials to make something new. Waste makes more trash for our planet and sometimes it takes years for some materials to decompose. We need to recycle paper, plastic, and metal and reduce the amount of things we throw away. We are helping our planet when we all do our part to keep it clean and healthy. Here is a video from Space as seen by astronauts: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUKA7ToC8R0 On April 23rd, 2021, four more astronauts were launched into Space!
NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 astronauts lifted off at 5:49 a.m. EDT Friday from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, bound for the International Space Station for the second commercial crew rotation mission aboard the microgravity laboratory. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket propelled the Crew Dragon spacecraft with NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur, along with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Thomas Pesquet, into orbit to begin a six-month science mission on the space station. The Crew Dragon spacecraft, named Endeavour, will dock autonomously to the forward port of the station’s Harmony module about 5:10 a.m. Saturday, April 24. The crew invited viewers aboard for a short tour of the spacecraft shortly after arriving on orbit, providing views inside the cabin and of the Earth through Dragon’s window.
